The Centennial neighbourhood is located between the Exchange District and the North End neighbourhood in core area Winnipeg.
The area borders on the Health Sciences Centre on Sherbrook Street to the West, and includes Red River College’s new downtown campus on Princess Street to the east, is bound by the CPR Rail Yards to the north and William Avenue to the south.
The Centennial neighbourhood is designated as a Housing Improvement Zone by the City of Winnipeg. The population in Centennial is 2,225. 190 residents are homeowners. Almost 80% of the area populations are renters living in 720 private rental units, and remainder in 432 Manitoba Housing. Nearly 65% of the population in Centennial live in low-income housing.
Centennial is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the city. Almost 50% of the area’s residents identify as Aboriginal, which is second highest in Winnipeg. 24.9 % identify as visible minorities, 13% of whom are Filipino.
Central Neighbourhoods Development Corporation (CNDC) works closely with the community and the residents association through a Community Development Coordinator (CDC) to address housing, safety, recreation, and education priorities in the area.
